Sony Memory Stick owners can now download a free software program that recovers lost or deleted files from compatible Memory Stick cards. The recovery depends on the state of the data and whether or not it has been overwritten.

Sony’s Memory Stick Data Rescue Service, which was released last week, enables the recovery of lost .jpg (DCF Format) files, MPEG1 and .mp4 (MS Video File Format) files, as well as office data files such as Powerpoint and Word documents.

To download the software, you are required to register the Memory Stick model and serial number which takes about a minute or so.
